African Harvesters

It was great to read the article "Out of Africa" (January/February), by Ken Walker, highlighting the successes of African church planters in the Western world. Now the question is, Will we learn from the methods and passion of our brothers and sisters across the ocean?

Don't overlook the pastors and church planters coming from Latin America and Asia—many of whom have the same philosophies and success of the African church planters you talked about in the article "Out of Africa." I believe God will use people of all nations to bring this nation back to Him.

Youth Crisis

Thanks so much for covering the desperate state of youth in America in the article "Last Chance" (January/February) by Ron Luce. However, I'm not sure that more programs will solve the problem. Christian parents have got to start taking responsibility for their teens' spiritual condition—not just leaving it to youth pastors and churches.

Debating Deliverance

I particularly enjoyed "Deliver Us From ... Deliverance Ministry" (January/February), by Chris Hayward. I would have liked the author to specifically talk about some of the excessive practices that have become popular in deliverance ministry. There is a need for real balance in this area, and sometimes we have to point out where we've gone wrong so that we can chart a way back to the biblical model of doing deliverance.

Facing Death

In his article "At Death's Door" (January/February), Clark Gerhart says that pastors should be prepared to give advice to families facing end-of-life issues. I believe the church should also make a point of providing this information before it's needed, by helping people draft wills, encouraging organ donation and so on.

No Middle Ground

I found the logic in the article "Perfectly Unhealthy," Ministry Matters, November/December, by Richard Winter, unrecognizable. The spectrum from neurotic perfectionism to non-perfectionism cannot have healthy as a midpoint. A person who has little or no shame or guilt, low self-esteem, is a manipulator and who lays little value on organization can hardly be laid back and fun to be around. The entire article is disorganized, shows sloppy analysis, misuses references, reaches wrong conclusions and results in being ridiculous.
