Ministry calls you to be good, but God has placed something better in you
The greatest threat to being all you can be is satisfaction with who you are. What you could do is always endangered by what you have done. Many church leaders bury their latent talents, gifts and abilities in the cemetery of their last accomplishments. They settle for less than their best.
The power of “the norm” is the curse of our society. It seems like the world is designed to make the norm comfortable and “the average” respectable. What a tragedy!
History reveals that the people who changed their generations and affected the world most dramatically were individuals who—because of a circumstance, pressure or decision—challenged the tide of convention, stretched the boundaries of tradition and violated the expectations of the norm. In fact, few great things ever have been done within the confines of the accepted norm.
So why follow a path when you can make a trail? Ask yourself the following questions: Have I become all I am capable of? Have I extended myself to the maximum? Have I done the best I can do? Have I used my talents and abilities to their limit?
Don’t be satisfied with anything less than the full accomplishment of God’s destiny for your life. Surrender to demands that maximize your potential so that none of your assignment is left undone when you leave this planet. The responsibility to use what God has stored within you is yours alone.
Many individuals are aware of their abilities and potential, but they have become frustrated and disillusioned either by their failures or the negative influence of others. I strongly urge you to rise up from your temporary fears, shake yourself and step out once again on the road to being and becoming your true self—the leader God designed you to be. Keep in mind these few truths as you determine to be better than “good”:
Your personality, abilities and resources are God’s gifts, bestowed on you before He gave you the breath of life, and they contain the possibility for bringing meaning and fulfillment into your life and the lives of those you lead. They are available, however, only to those who put forth the effort to recover them and to use them according to their God-given specifications.
Learning to tap the hidden wealth of your potential is the greatest task and the most pressing need of your life. If you don’t discover how to expose and use your treasure, you’ll die with it.
God wants you to release all He gave you for the benefit of others and the blessing of your own life. Start today being your best—don’t settle for good enough.
