One of the defining subjects of the Bible is the knowledge of God. The knowledge of God is the only source of truth and wisdom. The perfect and eternally existing one has given access to humanity to know Him and His kingdom. Humanity has access to know the knowledge of God through two avenues: the realm of the five senses (sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste) and by revelation. Sensory knowledge allowed Adam to see the beauty of Eve, hear the sounds of the new creation and taste perfect fruit. However, sensory knowledge was limited in giving humanity an understanding of God and creation. Revelation knowledge would be vital to humanity to understand its purpose and how God intended them to believe and act in the world they had inherited from God. Adam could only understand His purpose and how to live in the garden by revelation knowledge (Gen. 1:28, 2:15-17). Humanity's faith in God-given revelation is what causes the kingdom of God to be built and established on the earth. Revelation is so vital that Proverbs teaches us, "Without revelation people run wild" (Prov. 29:18, HCSB).
We are in a season in which God is releasing unprecedented revelation to His people in this season. God desires to release His beauty and an understanding of His ways to a people wholeheartedly committed to loving Him with all their heart. From this heart posture, God wants to reveal wisdom and knowledge that would cause His people to display the heart of God in real-world solutions. God graciously desires to reveal answers through His people in this season of unprecedented revelation. In the same manner, Daniel revealed that which only God knew to shape a nation, we have been given the responsibility of serving our generation with that which God is making available. In these unprecedented times in human history, God is granting unprecedented revelation to His people. While we cannot earn revelation, we can, with God's help, position our lives to receive revelation. The following are four keys to set our hearts to receive revelation.
1. We must recognize our need for revelation. Jesus as our model and example recognized His great need for the Father's guidance to fulfill the purpose for which He came to earth "What I'm about to tell you is true." The Son can do nothing by Himself. He can do only what He sees his Father doing (John 5:19, NIRV). Jesus' belief system and actions were governed by an eternal reality not seen with the natural eye. Though He had a will (like us), He yielded His will to only what was revealed to Him by the Father. One of the fruits by which we know we recognize our need for God is when we choose as a lifestyle to make the Word of God and fellowship first place in our lives (Matt. 6:33, 22:36-37).
2. Receive by faith. Scripture teaches that we understand by the gift of faith (Heb. 11:3). God releases revelation to us with the intention that we would place our trust in what He has revealed. I want to encourage you to make a conscious decision each day to receive by faith what God has spoken and allow it to define your current reality. The enemy seeks to define our world by what is temporary; God desires to define us by what is eternal and true. "While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal" (2 Cor. 4:18, MEV).
3. Choose to obey what God has said. I have learned that there is no growth and progression without a lifestyle commitment to obey entirely in every area of our lives. While we may not hit the mark perfectly, a core value in our lives must be a daily commitment with all of our heart. God will often require obedience on our part to manifest the truth of what He has spoken by revelation. Mary told the servants at the wedding, "Do what He tells you" (John 2:5b, NIRV).
4. Be willing to fight the fight of faith. I know by experience and through the witness of Scripture that our circumstances do not change simply because God has given us revelation. One of the foundations of spiritual warfare is a commitment to faith, the fight of faith. The enemy is defeated when we choose to stay in faith regardless of the circumstance or limitation we are experiencing. The apostle John wrote, "And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith" (1 John 1:9b, ESV). Similarly, the apostle Paul instructed us, " Fight the good fight of faith" (1 Tim. 6:12a). Be willing to allow patience to have its perfect work; stay in faith and see reality according to the Word of God.
