Teachers know what to teach and when to teach it.
I learned during my days in television station management that a necessary function of advertising sales is to handle objections. "Advertising doesn't work," "Your prices are too high," and "I don't like your news product," were common objections.
The teacher in me slipped into overdrive at an opportunity to help someone learn about marketing. I think it became more important to me to "change their mind" than to simply sell advertising. I wanted to obliterate objections.
Leaders have several opportunities every hour to correct teammates who don't agree with a decision or direction. It seems to me a gifted leader needs to know when to teach and when to remain silent.
As we are led by the Holy Spirit, I'm thankful we're allowed to grow in increments. "Here a little, there a little..." We learn through valleys and victories.
I'm convinced the Holy Spirit sees much in me that needs to come up higher. The disciples learned along the path, yet had "need to be taught again." Jesus didn't expect his disciples to learn it all in one sermon. He found a boat on the water to be a great pulpit. Jesus taught masterful object lessons at exactly the right time.
He also knew when to dust his feet and move on. Jesus was ready to teach but others weren't always ready to learn.
Leaders are instant in season.
"Again He began to teach by the seaside. A large crowd was gathered before Him, so that He entered a boat and sat in it on the sea. And the whole crowd was by the sea on the land" (Mark 4:1).
