Two men were arrested Sunday in connection with a string of church break-ins and arsons in Texas. Daniel George McAllister, 21, of Ben Wheeler and Jason Robert Bourque, 19, of Lindale were being held in the Smith County Jail in Tyler in lieu of $10 million bail each.

Police brought in McAllister and Bourque after a telephone tip, although they were already on the radar as suspects. Both men used to attend First Baptist Church in the city of Ben Wheeler, which was not targeted.

Investigators do not yet have a motive for the acts of arson. A variety of churches from various denominations were attacked.

"We're blessed that no lives were lost and no one was injured, but I don't think we let our guard down," said David Mahfood, pastor of Tyland Baptist Church, one of the churches that burned. [dallasnews.com, 2/22/10]
