Counseling for Women Addicted to Pornography

QUOTE: “The problem is, most churches have male leadership, and if you want to pitch an event [for women dealing with sexual addiction]… they’ll say, ‘Our women don’t struggle with that.’ This is going to be the next wave, but you’re going to get a lot of blank stares [from male pastors]. ‘Really? Come on, this isn’t a big deal.’”—Craig Gross, founder of XXX Church, speaking to the New York Times about the need for more counseling for women struggling with pornography and sexual addictions. Though many ministries exist to help men with these struggles, few are designed to help the growing number of female pornography users. [nytimes.com, 5/2/10]

I am a Christian counselor at the House of Healing in Phoenix and I routinely see women cured of sexual & pornography addictions. Many of them come for counseling after going thru a cleansing program. The key to healing in this area is the removal of the unclean spirits from the person's body. The Greek word for unclean is 'akathartos', which means 'morally or physically impure'. Unclean spirits get into the body thru sin and hyperactivate the normal sex drive causing the addictions (sex, drugs, food, alcohol, etc.). When they are removed the Christian finds freedom and lives a victorious lifestyle. Michael W. Smith www.hardcorechristianity.com

Desert Stream ministries has a great course 'Living Waters' that deals with sexual addictions and other needs for inner healing and their roots (for men & women).

As for women and porn, usually what men can become addicted to, women do the same. You discover that as a Christian counselor. Drugs. Booze. Cigs. Pot. Sex. Why not porn? It's not politically correct in the Christian world to speak of demons being involved in addictions of the carnal nature, but they are... Until you see it, and know how demons work against us, it is extremely difficult to get an addict set free. A chief tactic of demons is temptation--the flashing of pictures and thoughts, and the playing of sexual videos in the mind. And until you realize that all of your thoughts are not your own, you cannot deal with this--by taking authority over demons in the name of Jesus, and by obeying scripture--"Submit to God, resist the Devil, and he will flee", meaning they will leave you, or fight against you, depending on the strength of your resistance. When you see what is going on in your mind is not always of your own doing, then you're waking up to this invisible war...

Marnie Ferree at Bethesda Workshops in Nashville (www.bethesdaworkshops.org) has been helping female sex addicts for many years.

Why are people surprised that people who are exposed to stimuli on a regular basis develop a dependence on that stimuli. This is "Human Behavior 101" stuff.

You can watch Marnie talk about her ministry at:
