Texas Church Distributes Prom Dresses

Teenage girls flocked to St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Plano, Texas, Monday to look for prom dresses at The Prom Closet, the church’s second annual dress giveaway. Organized by women in the church, The Prom Closet gathered more than 500 donated dresses in various sizes, colors and fits. The dresses are given away free to teenage girls who can’t afford to pay for their own gowns.

"As a single parent ... this is a blessing to us that she could get something here," said Andraya Cooney, the mother of one of the girls who found a dress.

Jane Marshall, who proposed the idea to the church last year, said there’s more need for prom dresses than people think. Prices for new dresses can go as high as $200 or more.

The Prom Closet offers a variety of accessories with the dresses, including handbags, jewelry and shoes. Marshall also emphasized that all the items are in the current style. “These dresses are not something your grandmother would wear,” she said. [dallasnews.com, 3/30/10]

Good grief, people are dying in their sin for want of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And the Christian church is handing out prom dresses!?
We've gone past a new 'Downgrade' situation - we've hit the pits. 'God be merciful to me a sinner'.

I personally see nothing wrong with this as long as what ever is presented in a modest way ;-)
