Americans Killed by Pirates Took Bibles Worldwide

yachtTwo of the Americans killed aboard the yacht Quest by Somali pirates were on a worldwide trip to distribute Bibles.

Scott and Jean Adam of Marina Del Rey, Calif., wrote on their website that one aspect of their 2011 world sailing trip would be "friendship evangelism—that is, finding homes for thousands of Bibles, which have been donated through grants and gifts, as we travel from place to place.”

The retired couple had been taking sailing adventures for the last six years. Their current trip, which began in Phuket, an island off of Thailand, was to end in Crete in April after stops in Sri Lanka, India, Oman and other places, according to the Adams' website.

Somali pirates hijacked their vessel off the coast of Oman on Friday. Also on board were two other Americans, Phyllis Mackay and Robert A. Riggle of Seattle. All four were killed by the hijackers, U.S. military officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The Quest was owned by Scott Adam, who earned M.Div and Th.M. degrees from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif. The couple carried both Catholic and Protestant versions of the Bible, at several different reading levels. The Bibles were stamped, "A GIFT from your friends in the United States. Quest Bible Ministry. NOT FOR SALE."

According to the website Blue Water Rallies Limited, the Adams joined the Oz-Med section of the Blue Water Rally just before Christmas and had been sailing with the rally from Phuket as far as Mumbai but had chosen an alternate course along the way. "Quest chose to take an independent route from Mumbai to Salalah, leaving the Rally on 15 February," a statement on the website said.

Matthew 5:4
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. No one knows for certain what it feels like, but the Bible does describe what happens. 2 Corinthians 5:6-8 and Philippians 1:23 say that when we leave our body, we are at home with the Lord. What a reassuring thought! We will stay in this state until Christ comes and resurrects the believers (1 Corinthians 15:20-22, 6:14) when we will be given a new, glorified body. And lastly, Christians who have lost a child have the grand and faithful promise of God’s word: “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away” (Revelation 21:4).

Very sad and upsetting news. I prayed today morning and holyspirit gave me a verseThe death of his saints is precious to our God. We dont know how we will die but if by proclaiming the word of God it is very much rewarding. May God give comfort and his peace to the ministry who supported them and their family and relatives and their church.
GOD IS GREAT AND HE WILL STILL KEEP BEING GREATER
