Uganda Charismatic Movement Celebrates 50 Years

QUOTE: "We look forward to great things ahead knowing that God has a great purpose to transform our society. The church in Uganda is going to be a catalyst of the gospel, and you will be known throughout the world as a missionary church that’s sending the gospel to other nations.” —Hugh Layzell, who founded the first Pentecostal church in Uganda 50 years ago, during a celebration last week that commemorated the church’s anniversary. Layzell and his wife, Audrey, left Canada and founded Makerere Full Gospel Church in 1960. According to the Daily Monitor, there are now more than 1,500 Pentecostal churches in Uganda. Many of them took part in the weeklong celebration.
