Christopher Hill, protégé of influential Dallas pastor T.D. Jakes, is succeeding Heritage Christian Church founder Dennis Leonard as senior pastor of one of the Denver’s largest churches, according to the Denver Post. Under Hill, the church will be renamed Potter’s House Church of Denver, more closely matching the name of Jake’s 30,000-member megachurch
Hill has 20 years of ministry experience to take to his new position. Previously he was a youth pastor, associate pastor and elder at Potter’s House Church in Dallas. For the last seven years, Hill has been traveling and speaking in secular and sacred settings around the world.
Hill said he has been called “to reignite the historic revival fire” of the city. He succeeds the 60-year-old Leonard, who started Heritage Christian Center in his basement with 30 people in 1985. The church has an estimated 5,000 members and is nationally known for its racial diversity and in-house publishing label.
Jakes was in Denver on Wednesday night to preside over Hill's installation as the church's leader. [denverpost.com, 3/2/10]
