When a Beer Separates You From God

QUOTE: "I want the people who don’t want to go to church, those who are wounded and broken, especially from religion. I want to reach out to the person who believes a beer separates them from God. … Jesus said what comes out of the heart is more defiling than what goes into the mouth. … I love [people] where they are at rather than where they are supposed to be. There’s nobody I refuse to fellowship with. I’d much rather hang out with someone who is broken than someone who thinks they don’t have any need. Religion doesn’t always do that." —Beloit, Wis., ministry leader Kathy Price, on meeting at a local bar with a "non-church" crowd every Sunday to talk about Jesus over cocktails, cigarettes and chicken wings. After learning about Catholic Saint Katherine of Sienna, a fellow pub preacher in the 14th century, Price said she felt impressed by the Holy Spirit to begin reaching out to regulars in bars and launched The Red Door ministry. It is a great ability from the Lord when a person can go into a bar and sit down and minister one on one with people right where they are. Before we make a judgement against people who don't participate in this type of outreach maybe we have understand some of their background. maybe they have come out of this and can't go back with out being tempted to go back to that lifestyle. So when someone has this call we should all pray for them and help anyway we can. At the heart of a true christian are all people who do not know Jesus in the pardon of their sins. It should be our heart's desire to reach everyone for Christ.

I am so happy to see you print this. I believe she is right on track. Too many people think they are above those who socialize in bars. Jesus met the people where they were. I have ministered to people in bars and have found many of them to be very open to the word. Religion has turned many away from God, too many people pointing fingers. We need to get down to business and minister to broken people. We need to show love and compassion for the lost just as Jesus did and not be judgmental of others. Jesus said to love one another as I have loved you.
