Wagner: Don't Give an Inch to Satan

C-Peter-Wagner-DominionI can still remember prophecy teachers who tacked rows of charts and diagrams on the church wall and explained spell-binding details of the past, present and future. I cut my spiritual teeth on the Scofield Bible and devoured Hal Lindsey’s The Late Great Planet Earth. My seminary professors instructed me in pre-tribulationism and premillenialism. I quickly categorized anyone who disagreed as a “liberal.”

Now I look back on those days with a strange combination of regret and amusement. How is it that I was so wrong for so long? As I analyze my change, I can sum it up by admitting that I simply did not understand the kingdom of God.

Let me explain what I mean by starting with the Great Commission. The Great Commission has been central to my life. I committed myself to missions the night I was saved when I was 19. I spent my first 16 years of ministry as a field missionary and the next 30 as a professor of missions.

My heart’s desire was to help fulfill Jesus’ mandate to “make disciples of all nations.” However, the time came when I had to make a radical shift in the way I interpreted those words of Jesus.

Formerly, I thought my task was to go to as many nations of the world as possible and save as many souls as possible and plant as many churches as possible. Now I take the Great Commission more literally when it tells us not to make as many individual disciples as we can but to disciple whole social groups—such as entire nations. This is kingdom theology.

When God created Adam and Eve, He told them to take dominion over all His creation (see Gen. 1:28). This was God’s plan until Satan succeeded in persuading Adam to obey him rather than God. The result was that Satan usurped Adam’s authority and took dominion himself.

But Jesus came as the second Adam. He brought the kingdom of God to earth and sent His disciples out to preach the gospel of the kingdom. He has now commissioned us, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to advance His kingdom, to push Satan’s kingdom back and to retake the dominion that rightly belongs to the human race.

This is the Great Commission. It still includes healing the sick, casting out demons, saving souls, multiplying churches and feeding the hungry, but it goes far beyond these activities. It is putting feet to the prayer that Jesus taught us to pray: “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

How has this played out? The human race is enormously better off now than it was when Jesus died and was raised from the dead 2,000 years ago! Satan is losing ground more and more rapidly.

Those who think the world is getting worse and worse are missing the big picture of human history. I now regard my former pre-tribulationism and premillenialism as escapist eschatology.

I do not plan to give any territory back to Satan or his Antichrist. Yes, there will be setbacks, but the advances will far outnumber them. Instead of an escapist eschatology, I expouse a victorious eschatology!

My favorite term is “dominion eschatology.” Why? Because Jesus did not give His Great Commission in vain.

The battle will be ferocious, and we will suffer some casualties along the way. However, we will continue to push Satan back and disciple whole nations.

We are aggressively retaking dominion, and the rate at which this is happening will soon become exponential. The day will come when “‘The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever’” (Rev. 11:15, NKJV)!

C. Peter Wagner is president of Global Harvest Ministries (globalharvest.org), chancellor of Wagner Leadership Institute and presiding apostle of the International Coalition of Apostles. He has written numerous books, including Dominion! (Chosen).

Pressing into the kingdom and expecting to see it advance as we labor with Christ are foundational faithful heart attitudes. in my opinion assuming that we will win the battle prior to Christs second coming is contrary to the main and plain of scripture, if that is what C.P. Wagner is saying by quoting Rev.11:5. Paul taught that there would be a great apostasy before the return as did Jesus in the synoptics. Great darkness will cover the earth according to Isaiah, great war will fill themideasdt, Jerusalem apparently is captured and the women ravished, Damascus is destroyed, the sun will go dark and the moon will turn blood red and an evil Islamic army will be a scourge satanically empowered as it goes forth conquoering and to conqueor. Not necessarily in that order...But I assume you get the drift

#8 "behold" He DID come quickly, since Revelations was clearly written in 66 A.D. "in the DAY of the LORD" to the Jews in which it DID HAPPEN within that 'generation of Jews' (within 40 yrs. of the ascention of Jesus to His Father's RH "forevermore", and "hereafter". Matthew clearly says HIS COMING is by the same angelics WHICH HID HIM, separated Him, BEFORE He was taken up from the Earth. They were 'bright', and would come WITHIN A GENERATION of when He was first HIDDEN, THEN SEPARATED FROM THE 'ELEVEN' ON THE MOUNT, BEFORE ARISING FROM HERE. As His Feet (these 'glorious ones' doing the King's business) they also will 'stand' again on a different Mt. of Olives (WHICH IS NOT HERE, because it's described as looking at Jerusalem TOWARD the east where they actually ARE PHYSICALLY SEEN 'AS HIS FEET'). They are sent in the vengence of His Father, on His behalf, and came from 66 A.D. thru 73 A.D. when at Masada (4/3/73) the Jews remaining from Judea COMMITTED SUICIDE, AS O.T. PROPHESIED.

@BJStone ~ While I agree that Jesus is now at the right hand of the Father, He will not forever remain there, He Himself has said in the book of Revelations ... "Behold I come quickly" make no mistake about it He is coming again!! He will rule this earth as King and all the nations of the earth will worship Him. Also it is a good thing to long for Him because 2 Timothy says:

Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

I fall into that category ...

Thank you Peter Wagner,
Jesus always encourages us, and the devil is always trying to remind us of our past mistakes or failures, or the mistakes and failures of other peopleup we supported.
I just want to take a moment to thank you for birthing many men and women of God who are now leaders of the prayer movement: Dutch Sheets, Cindy Jacobs, & Francis Frangipane for example have credited you. You have been an example for me, in that I desire to impart to others to see them rise up.
Be at peace my brother, and may God give you the grace to continue to be a leader and an example for the nations... Thank you.
* It is not what you know or do not know that defines you, rather it is the Character revealed in you and imparted to others that reveals Christ...

LONGINGS for Jesus must be that HE STANDS at His Father's Right Hand "RH" and administers judgment FROM HIS FATHER'S RH "only", "hereafter" and "forevermore". Any and all desires to 'bring Christ "down from above" again, and coaxing Him to leave HIS FATHER'S PLACE OF HIGHEST POWER just to His 'left hand' ABOVE HIM, is a longing NOT TO SEE this world have it's heavens suddenly on fire (which is what Peter came to understand was the real FIRE of Holy Ghost baptism WHICH HE CAME INTO THE REALIZATION after Paul 'publically admonished him' openly IN FRONT OF ALL THE OTHER TEMPLE BUILDING JEWS still hoping JESUS still had 'unfinished business' on this now fully cursed tiny, expendable GLOBE. The "parousia" (a military term) of the coming of the Holy Ones of God (angels of vengence in brightness WHICH ALSO TOOK JESUS APART AND SEPARATED HIM FROM THE DISCIPLES, EVEN BEFORE HE 'rose out of their site', WHO ALSO HAD 2 STAY, saying "why" are you still standing "HERE", ON 'THIS DUST', GAZING ?

Amen Dane Gressett!! I totally agree with you! As I was reading the article toward the end I was thinking, where is Jesus in all of this? Yes the world is going to get worse and worse, this is what the Bible declares and Jesus Himself. Yes we will do our part, but I believe the great commission is not directed at nations per se but nations via individuals, it is Christ when He steps down on the Mt. of Olives that will straighten the nations out. He will reign as the one and only true King! I think the author is missing the meaning of what God meant by taking dominion. Our taking dominion is not by our power and might, it is following the Word of God and the leading of the Spirit of God. We have dominion because our King gives it to us. I do agree with him on the escapist mentality which I think is sad and a huge lie in the body of Christ. But so is thinking that the world is going to get better and ignoring the prophetic eschatology. I too long for our Lord's return!!

Isn't this the same C. Peter Wagner who put his seal of approval on false prophet Todd Bentley? This guy has gone into the ditch and is leading others there as well.

False gospel of 'domionists' STILL, cannot come to 'grips' with the FACT that God sent Adam to this Earth TO DELIVER it's inhabitants from 'demon possession' (not to conquer the world, but to pave the way for the last ADAM TO COME, under the Law, and establish the Law WHICH WOULD ENTRAP GOD'S ENEMIES and eventually bring them down to this tiny blue marble, but not until AFTER it's heaven were on fire, and one year after that, it's a 'footstool' LAKE OF FIRE, FOR THE SPIRITUAL ETERNAL BODIES jailing of devil and his angels ETERNALLY) ! why, o why, do people like this author, still not get it. THIS EARTH WAS FULLY CURSED by the shed blood of Jesus on His cross. ALL PEOPLES from here, from first Adam's 'Eve', with natural living soul BODIES are leaving here, AND BEHIND ARE THE NATURAL DUST TO DUST BODIES (MORE bodies for Azazel, the Prince of Demons for this tiny blue Marble). Jesus paid a ransom payment OF HIS OWN SOUL (as last ADAM) to Azazel ENDING the race of Adamites forevermore
