Dear Roger, can you share an example? Where a group of elders lead a flourishing, growing church? I think it doesnot work, one person needs to have a vision and be in charge, else the church will only focus on itself

Until we see the N.T. church set up like it was in Acts, pastors will burn out because they are trying to operate under and anointing they were never given. Apostles oversee churches not pastors . Read you bibles guys!

Pastors get burned out when they feel they need to be in control and do everything. God gave the body of christ members who are also able to be workers and some are even at the level of ministering themselves. Pastors need to allow members to handle some responsibility. Its not even how they look or what the financial status they hold, it's praying and allowing God to choose and work with them not against them. God raises and anoints those in the body whom He chooses, Put God in control of the church and watch it grow in Him. Pastors- Keep God first, your family next . The church is in the Hands of God not mans.

Most of the problems are self inflicted for the simple reason that we have abandoned the New Testament revelation of the church and imposed a culturally impotent version. The church in the NT, (one per town), was governed by a plurality of Elders that were appointed from within the fellowship. Nowhere do we read of "a pastor" being in charge, and nowhere do read of "a pastor" being brought in from miles away to run the church. Until we forego this cultural model and replace it with a New Testament one, the problems will continue and get more numerous. I am not sure that this will happen as there are too many people who have positions of power to protect.
