My condolences to the family of this precious woman. I am afraid that this will make more people not want to fast. Fasting is already looked as as strange by a large part of the body of Christ. Nearly every book I read on fasting says to be under a doctors supervision for longer fasts. Stormie Omartian's book "7 Steps to Greater Health God's Way" is wonderful on how to fast and other insights for the health of the body. God does call us to fast as a regular part of a Christian lifestyle but we must be sensitve to the Spirit when he tells us to stop. Many times God has told me to stop the fast due to health reasons. I don't know all the circumstances involved in this case, none of us do, but I do pray that this whole thing was Spirit led and not fleshy led. If of God then, "well done thy good and faithful servant, you have been faithful unto death."

We don't know that the fasting is what killed her. Maybe she would have died anyway. She might have had a heart attack. It happens and actually it might have happened sooner if she hadn't been fasting. Don't jump to conclusions.

I take issue with the above statement: "Fasting from food is not meant to be a regular Christian lifestyle." The early Christian church fasted two days a week, Wednesdays and Fridays. This is a matter of church history.

You are right about the "locked" part. I guess I just "assumed" someone was checking on her or had access....and it would cause a red light to come on in your mind or heart with the thought of her in that bedroom without a "watcher." Of course, that rule would not apply to me since I am not married and do not invite many people into my home anymore. Guess its because I had prayer meetings for years in my home and it was constantly full of people. But...there's an awful lot to be said about "COMMON SENSE."

First of all I believe in fasting since it says in the word of God "when" you fast. Figure it out. BUT...I was told by a minister of 40 years when I was a new Christian to "be absolutely sure" that God had spoke to my heart about any extended fast. The longest I have ever fasted with just water is 7 days. I know others who have fasted for 30 or 40. I have fasted for a month many times with juice, tea or some other liquid, which I was told is a "partial" fast. I felt better, saw God move and was blessed beyond words with an anointing. But I find that I am a "minority" in our area the last several years. Friends and church goers shy away from the subject or want to "argue." If you are a member of God"s body, you will "know" his voice. I am saddened by this incident, but wonder if she wanted to go. Years ago I felt God's presence so strong that I wanted to be with him more then anything I could imagine. Its a thought, since we are not "ALL KNOWING."

I'm a pastor of a church in Mexico and send my concolences to pastor John. I have nothing against fasting, I't''s part of my life style, the only thing is that I believe what matters more to God is his church to be active and save souls. Time is runing out on us and we must activate reaching the unreached, this is the closest to Gods heart. Prov. 11:30 . JOSE L. DE LA TORRE (joseluisdlt@hotmail.com) :-|

There is a difference between fasting and starving. I just finished my second 40 day fast. Fasting is a wonderful experience and there is nothing that can take it's place. It's sad that so few know so little about it. If this dear lady went on 4 different extended fast last year, her reserves in her body might have been depleated. It's sounds like she starved herself to death or died from lack of water. Let's not rush to conclusions until all the facts are in. Regardless of the findings, this should not stop people from fasting, people should just be better educated. My family has been worried about me and made sure I knew about this story. I am fine and will continue to fast in the future, but people who fast should use common sense and make sure to drink plenty of water and even juices, especially when going for long periods of time. My heart and prayer is with this family and I hope this does not stop people from seeking God through fasting in the future.

This makes Christians look like loonies. If you explain this away, we look even crazier than unbelievers think we are... No, this is a bad mistake... She didn't know what she should have about long-term fasting... That ignorance killed her... I have fasted a lot. I fasted for 17 days on water. I wrote a book on fasting for Bill Bright who fasted 40 days on juices four times--but was wise enough to stay under the watch and care of a doctor... If you want to stay really close to God, you can do it with extended worship at home... Draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you... Fasting from food is scriptural, but you don't starve yourself until your body parts break down for lack of nourishment... Fasting from food is not meant to be a regular Christian lifestyle... Fasting is something we do to keep our soulish nature under and out of the way; or when we serioulsy repent of our sins; or when we want to move God to do something special, like save our nation. This is a bad mistake...
