 Karate has no more a conneciton to Eastern religions, than does Boxing to Western religions. Would such xenophobic expressions surface if it were Boxing, rather than Karate?

Thank you for this information and the opportunity to respond to write a comment. I am 49 years old – was saved in 2004 – love Jesus and happy serve in the capacity of creating and managing a martial art ministry. Praise God for this opportunity. The concept of Martial Arts being utilized as outreach is common and it is growing. In the beginning, the acceptance of the American church community was questionable, at best. The Eastern Religion association in the martial arts was the catalyst for this concern. As always, ignorance is the reason for the majority of prejudice. Martial Arts are not exclusive to the Oriental Community. Martial Arts are indigenous to all cultures. We see MA in the European, Middle East, and Africa and in the Bible. For our MAM (Martial Art Ministry), we have removed the rituals and symbolism that are directly associated with a non-Christian perspective. Our MAM is based on Proverbs 31:8-9. I started in the MA at age 12. The majority of my instructors were ex-military. Many of them were God loving men we stood up for their faith and for their country. There is a difference between Christian vs. Oriental Martial Arts. The difference is Jesus. Thank you and God Bless!!! Sensei Ed martialartministry@gmail.com

What about the eastern religious concepts taught in karate? The same problems exist as in "christian" yoga. It's a mixture of religions.
