How Does a Leader Find Time for That?

I've been under conviction lately by how I continue to rationalize not exercising. It's easy to do. I'm busy being busy.

I thought further about modeling good use of time as a leader. I was reminded to know that time on earth is a gift from God.

Leaders know that we must give an account for the use of our time. I am convicted to believe that we will also give an account for how we have treated our temple. Few of us would argue that rest and exercise are not important. But this is a deeper question—do you expect to give an account to God for how you managed your health? How do you maintain your personal temple?

"Glorify God in your body" is open to interpretation but unless we are rushing to rationalize a behavior, we don't need a lot of help understanding that God wants us to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Seasons come and go but we are certain to be asked to account for how we have used what we have been given. We teach this concept in our use of words, finances and time management.

We give back a time tithe to God. We can serve God every day by allocating about 2.5 hours each day (approximately 10 percent of a day) to specific work for the good of the kingdom. To me, these are beyond work hours if I work in a ministry. Our time tithe includes prayer, Bible reading, devotions and any time we spend helping others.

In the same manner, we can surely find 2.5 hours each day for personal growth.

When I thought about this, I became excited that I found time to exercise. It was a revelation of sorts. I can hit the gym for an hour and still change the world!

I realize my time allocation model isn't for everyone. Please find yours. Find an hour for your health. Find an hour for the Lord and others. If you can't find it now because of your current season, keep looking for it.

This season will end as surely as life will end.

"You were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's" (1 Cor. 6:20).
